At random times when i go to plug my charger into my phone nothing will happen, no lightning bolt appears on the battery and the percentage continues to drop, it completely fails to charge when its on. Now on the other hand when i turn the phone off and plug it into the charger it will vibrate and show the grey battery symbol that just has the revolving circle and does this over and over without switching to the green charging symbol, the weird part is when i unplug it and turn it back on it has charged.

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried different charging cables?

There might be a problem with the charge port. You may have to bring it to a repair shop to check it out.

I have exact the same "grey battery" issue with my Galaxy S4 and came across this forum. Just wondered if you've found a solution for it. Thanks.

Try different cables, different charger or a car charger. Check the port with a magnifying glass to be sure there is no debris in there. If it is still not charging it sounds like a repair will be necessary.
