How can I get an update to change how open app screen works.

I have a Nexus 4, 5.1.1, Build LMY48T, on T-Mobile, but I bought unlocked.

I saw an android phone that was supposed to be running Lollipop but the actives apps screen was different. There were tiles and not stacked cards. Is there a way for me to change from the stacked cards to the tiles?

Ah, the "recent screens". I'm on Lollipop and mine are stacked cards. Are you sure the other phone was Lollipop and not Marshmallow?

Blackberry included a feature to change how the recent apps overview looks. Take a look here.

It's possible that some custom roms for your Nexus would offer something similar to the Kitkat overview.
