Hi! Guys!
Newbie here.
OK! I have one each modem & router (Huawei & Innatech_2.4 & 5.0Ghz_supplied by Telco) placed downstairs in a store room under the staircase. Another router (Linksys E8350 AC2400 Dual band as extender) is placed on the 1st floor family area. Placed in my room is a repeater (Aztech WL580E wall plug dual band) that draws it’s wifi signal from the Linksys E8350.
Even with this setup, the Note 3 with Lollipop 5.0 will still not change from the downstairs wifi with 0-1 bar to the strong signal emanating from the Aztech in my room or vice versa.
Grrrr!!!Grrr!!!
The change can only be autAmatic (manual), not automatic. The Note 3 can be just inches from the wifi source, but will not change.
Two days ago, I happened to enable “Plane Mode” on my Note 3 and also manually re-enable Wifi. I left my Note 3 on “Plane Mode” for about 1~1.5 hours before disabling it. After disabling Plane mode, I rebooted the Note 3. To my surprise, the wifi switches from the downstairs modem & router’s wifi signal to my room’s wifi signal without fail (automatically) when their signals drop down to 1 bar.
The next day out of curiosity, I enabled “Plane Mode” again for about 10 minutes. After disabling Plane Mode, I forgot to re-boot. The wifi refuses to change even when it had dropped down to “0” bar.
To test again, I re-enabled “Plane Mode” for 1hour 15minutes. Plus enabled wifi. Have since rebooted about 2~3 times as I did it at about 11pm last night.
Wow! It worked again. I went downstairs (3x) – shows 1- 0 bar – the signal strength indicator went off about 5~10 seconds later and after 5~10 seconds, up pops the wifi signal strength indicator showing the signal is now received from the downstairs modem & router. Went upstairs (3x) to my room and the same procedure happened again. All these changes were done by the Note 3 – AUTOMATICALLY- after having determined that the wifi signal from the downstairs or room is too weak to be useful.
I prefer using the 5.0Ghz and the Note 3 remembers my preference when it switches wifi sources automatically. I try not to use the 2.4Ghz as all my neighbors seem to be logged onto it.
For your info, the modem & router downstairs and my room’s SSIDs and passwords are different and yet the changes were effected automatically.
At one point and being so frustrated, I had considered installing one of the apps that’s supposed to change the wifi source automatically. But after reading the comments, I backed down as I may get a lot of unasked for craps to bog down my 3~4 years old Note 3.
This procedure worked for me and I hope it works for you all too.
