How can I get my rooted phone replaced?

Rooted phone

Apparently my phone became "rooted" (and I had to look that up because no one at my service provider would explain the term to me) and now my warranty is void?? So I have a 6mth old Galaxy S5 that no one will replace for me and they want to charge me $750.00 to fix....Is there anyone who can tell me how to get my phone replaced? I am having a hell of a time with my provider who won't honor the product they sold me and still want me to pay for a now useless phone....Should I just take the phone to a local techie repair place and see if I can get it fixed for less? Does any one know how phones become rooted without being tampered with? I am totally illiterate in technology and unless I did it by accident I have NO IDEA how it happened!! Anyone else had a similar issue with Samsung?

Samsung will not help you because having a rooted phone is the equivalent of hacking and thus they really will not help you in any case

I've never rooted my phone, so my knowledge is extremely limited, in that regard. However, isn't rooting a detailed step-by-step process? Is it even possible to just "accidentally" root a phone?
