How can I get rid of Contact photos?

I don't want to use photos of my contacts. Is there a way to get rid of the photo icon/avatar/placeholder that appears automatically with new contacts?

Welcome to Android Central!

You can try the app below but I believe it will remove the contact photos permanently. You will have to add them back if you want them back.
