how can I get rid of the "double tap to unlock" message that keeps appearing when using telephone?

When dialing, receiving calls, and while talking, android goes into an endless loop asking for "double tap to unlock". Hugely annoying, and I can't find any settings that will get rid of this. At other times, the phone works OK. Using android 4.4.2 on a (old) Samsung DUOS.

Been awhile since I used a phone with KitKat , can you post screenshot?

Welcome to Android Central! That screen typically shows up for phones that lack a proximity sensor, or phones that allow you to turn off the proximity sensor. The reason for the double-tap is to prevent your face from accidentally pressing onscreen buttons while you have the phone up to your face during a call. Do you know if your phone has a proximity sensor? If it doesn't, I don't think you can turn that feature off. If it does have a proximity sensor, then open the Phone app and look through its settings for an option to turn the screen off during a call.

Not that I am aware of. I've never installed one.... is there any way such a thing could be included in the software that came with the phone? How would I know? How would I find it?
