I often power off my phone before important meetings. Sometimes forget until meeting has started, so want shutdown to be silent. In any case, I wish my AT&T HOX made NO SOUND AT ALL when I power it on or off. How can I do that?

Turn you phone into vibrate or on silent mode b4 you turn it off. No sound whatso ever except small vibration.

Instead of powering off, wake the phone and hold down the volume down key till it buzzes.
Heck you can even do this under the table with one hand.

Then put your phone in pocket or purse, and no one will hear it if it rings or a text message arrives.

I NEVER shut off the phone. Unless the cabin crew demand it.

Thanks. I'll do the lower volume thing from now on. My BBerry (for work) has a silent mode that doesn't vibrate either, so I can place it on the table and it won't disturb anyone with either a ring or a vibe. I can just watch it to see if any messages arrive. Wonder if 1X has a "no ring, no vibe" mode??

'Nother question: If it is powered off, and I want to power it on, how can I suppress that annoying set of AT&T tones that accompanies a start?

On my One S if I press volume down the second to last spot is silent, the last spot is vibrate. So if the phone is in your pocket or under the table, press volume down all the way till it buzzes, then press volume up once and you are on silent.

Thanks again. I skipped right past the silent mode on my way to vibrate mode without realizing it. I tried it your way (all the way down, then up a click) and it works fine.

There's even a special icon up top to let me see what condition I'm in: regular, silent, or vibe.

Welcome. :-) Yeah, I forgot about the icons.

You can also put a widget on one of your home screens that will toggle from full volume, silent and vibrate.
