How can I prevent T-Mobile OTA pie update and stay on 8.1?

But maybe still enough to cause the root check in the update to fail. It's going to find /sbin/su.

Updating (or preventing updating) 4 or 5 times a year is hardly "day to day use". (Remember, if you don't run any app that requires root access, it's not "being used".)

That is true , as long as you dont alter the stock firmware anyway shouldn't be a problem but you got ask yourself why go root that you cant take full advantage of ? To stop a software update ? Package disabler much easier method and you could download in play store pay couple bucks , easy as pie .

Rooting, using the method in the linked thread, will eventually be made more stable. (And if you use Magisk instead of SuperSU, you can still update if you decide to later - and still keep root. And still get the advantage of running apps that need root access. And have a stable, ready for daily use, root. Not to mention all the Magisk modules you can use - EnableDoze, Greenify, Magic Charging Switch, just to name a few.)

Package enabler? Link2SD - and freeze whatever apps you want to disable.

My only gripe is that no one's figured out how to unlock the bootloader on Samsung ROMs, so that it would be easier to install TWRP.
