How can I remove my (personal) email address from the GMail app?

Using 4.4.4 on a stock Nexus 5.

Starting yesterday, when I receive an email to my personal email address, I get two notifications -- one from the Email app, and one from GMail.
I had no idea that GMail was receiving my personal email and I don't want it to.

As well, I no longer see my GMail in my gmail app.

In Settings | Sync, I see only my personal email address (tho' not the gmail address). Sync is OFF.

How can I correct this so that GMail is associated (only) with my gmail.com address, and not my personal address?

Open GMail (the app). Look in Accounts. Delete your personal account. (I think - I uninstalled the GMail app a long time ago. I prefer Email for all my accounts.)
