I have a file among my downloaded files. I need to send it to someone via text message (SMS, I guess). How can I do that?

From messenger, there is no option to attach a file from my phone, as far as I can tell. From a file manager, I can only open the file, there is no option to do something with the file.

My android OS is Oreo.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone, and which messaging app?

Also, what kind of file are you trying to send?
Many SMS apps limit you to pictures and videos.

ManinacJoe is correct...SMS can only send MMS media files such as photos , audio , and video . You can also send vCard contact cards (vcf).

Typically SMS and MMS cannot send PDF, DOCX, XLSX, etc.

There are some Messaging formats that can support multiple files but they tend to use speciality apps.

Just use WhatsApp if your recipient uses it. You can send documents, pictures, audio and video thru WhatsApp
