Android Central Question

I want to have a specific message tone for when my kids text me. How can I set that in my Samsung s9?

You'd have to install a texting app that allows that - the standard Samsung texting app and the standard Google texting app don't. Different tones on phone calls, yes, but not different tones on texts. (Then you'd have to change your default texting app to the new one.)

I noticed this feature was missing as well along with a few other small things.

To assign individual message tones on S9 you have to go to your messages and click on the contact name in the text messages you want to change. At the top left you'll see 3 dots. Hit that tab. The screen will drop down that contact. Under notifications you'll see Default. Hit that tab and then you'll see Default or Custom tab. Hit the settings wheel beside Custom. On that next screen choose Sound and it'll take you the message notification tones. Then choose what tone you want for that contact and hit the arrow at top to go back to previous screen and you'll see the new tone under the Sound. That's it. I'm not tech savvy but I figured it out just messing around on my phone. Hope this helps!!

You are correct. I have done this for a while now and it works fine. Just cannot set them through contacts anymore. I am surprised that even Samsung support said to people that it cant be done, and you need another messaging app.

I use stock messaging and have different sounds for several contacts. No problem.
