Mail Crashing

Hi, I've been having issues with mail for a week or so, only a guess that its connected to the MM update though.

When in the mail app I can receive mails.
I can click Forward and add an email address but as soon as I click into the message body it crashes with the EM: Mail has stopped unexpectedly.
I did have the same issue with Reply and Reply All, but now as soon as I click Reply or Reply All it crashes with the EM: Mail has stopped unexpectedly. I can't even get to the message body.
I also get the same error message if I click on new email.

I have removed both mail accounts and re-added but get the same error.

I've been advised to clear the system cache but have been trying all morning without success. I get to the red triangle bit but when I hold volume up and power nothing happens.

Any help with my issue and the system cache problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Mail Crashing

There is a new method to clear cache. Look around as I saw the thread yesterday. If you updated mail after the MM upgrade, try to uninstall mail updates. All the newest reviews report crashing. Mine works fine as I refused the update in play store

Re: Mail Crashing

Would you believe I got some updates today and one of them was for Mail, problem is now solved.
Thanks anyway.

Keeping apps updated is often vital to maintaining application stability and the reason is quite simple

Open the App Store and go to the “Updates” tab
Install any updates available to the application which is exhibiting crashing problems or bugs
Relaunch the freshly updated app
If the application crashing was caused by a bug that has since been remedied with an app update, this will resolve the problem.

I have an HTC m7 running latest stock Lollipop. I have the exact same problem as you. Maybe I'll get the update today :-)

Exact same issue with my HTC One M8. Hope there is a fox for this soon. Do you think HTC just hasn't rolled out the update that is supposed to fix this yet?

Re: Mail Crashing

I have the exact problem with my HTC one max 803s. Can fwd, but reply and reply all says email crashed unexpectedly. Just happened today AFTER installing a bug fix pack that came through today (23 Feb).
This is a real problem as it is my work phone. Any fixes would be appreciated. Have deleted/reinstalled the email account. Restarted phone numerous times.
Thanks in advance.

My mail app stopped checking for mail all day, after reading another post on here I realized it was the update. I went into Settings, apps, mail and uninstalled updates. Now it's working again, just had to uncheck auto update.

Re: Mail Crashing

I had the same problem without the MM update (not available on Verizin yet).

There is a fix on another thread about the Android Web View update causing the mail problem. I uninstalled the Web View update and my mail is working again.

Just another possible reason for mail crash that has nothing to do with MM. I always wait to update until I read reviews, but I didn't do that this time.

Definitely a genius. Second time dang webview has bitten me... if it would do it more often, I would remember... before I've reloaded the account twice.

Uninstalling Web View updates did it for me. Thank you!

Side note, I have never been able to use the google keyboard with the "mail" app, I always have to switch the keyboard back to the HTC Sense one. If I used the google keyboard it randomly places what I'm writing all over the place

I am not able to find that update and going through apps to look at "Mail", there is no option to uninstall updates. Please help! I have a HTC M7 from AT&T.

I know! But I just had this problem and I am fully updated on all my apps, not sure what is going on.

Hmm.. I am randomly updating all those available for any app on my phone. The OS is up to date.

Uninstalling "Android System Web View" worked! I was looking for just "web view" in the apps... DU-OH!

Damm. This is what did it. Suddenly I was facing the same problem with me M9 and uninstalling Android web view solved it. Had is also with my former Desire 816 and it solves it as well...
Damn man. Thx
