How can you tell if your cpu is permanently damaged?

Ok so I have been noticing lately that my battery and CPU temp has been increasing a lot lately with moderate use (up to the mid 40's). It happened ever since I installed drotheme. I don't know if this an issue with my CPU or what. This happenens even if I'm at 250-550. The temperature where I live has been getting warmer the past week (70's it was in the 50's before last week) but I didn't think that would affect it too much. Anybody have any idea what could be doing this or what to do about it? I might try to unroot and see how mu phone reacts but aside from that I have no idea what to do.

its probably do to the kernal you are using. so i'd recommend either using a new kernal which you can find over at alldroid.org or just flash a different ROM that has a stable kernal and doesnt have reports of overheating. as for knowing if you damaged it. I think it would become super apparent. these things can run pretty hot, but they shouldn't have to. so just use a failsafe setup in SetCPU with a 100 degree Fahrenheit cap. I doubt you damaged it, but try to avoid doing that again.

I love Jake's Kernals. Idles cool ~18C and seldom gets above 30C with moderate use. I keep mine at 800MHZ now but never had any heating issues with 1000mhz when I was running it. I installed it in place of the simply stunning kernel.

I've tried using bekits and p3droids and the same issue occurred. I switched themes as well. Right now I'm on BB which is a little better but not like it was before. What about a full wipe using adb? Whould that do anything?

are u using any kind of live wallpaper?

i loaded BB1.0 with the bekit 1k kernel, and i was running up into the 50C range which never happens..wiped, reloaded, different kernels, ramping down the OC, everything, it was still hot as a mofo...what i didnt change, was the breziers lwp i was also running. switched it out to the normal nexus lwp and my temps dropped almost immediatly...something is taxing ur cpu to cause it to always run hot...u just need to find it. good luck.

That sounds like the only other the. I don't use live wallpapers but something could be running in the background taxing the cpu. The only thing I know of that I have running constant is screebl. Anybody know of a way to see what is using the cpu the most?

You didn't damage your CPU mine has been running warmer than usual but the temps here have been in the 70s when it was cooler my temps were down by 10 degrees cooler

Shaydlife and I are using this theme and are not experiencing any heat issues.
Not sure what would be causing the heat. What do you have your setcpu set to? Are you using the profiles? What are those set to?

one thing im trying now is Pete's baseband update for his BB rom (the rom im using) and going to dial *228 to reprogram.

Bizz: ya that's what im thinking could be the issue. but if it is warmer where you live then what are you supposed to do with the phone? i was just in my room on the web for about maybe 6 minutes tops and my droid's cpu temp was like in the mid 40's celcius. that's really hot seeing it it like 111 Fahrenheit give or take. i mean warm or cool weather, i would figure the phone would maintain it's condition.

DA: Im using petes 7 slot low voltage 1000 mghz kernal. standard settings are 250-550 (currently) i was at 550-700 a few minutes ago. i have charging at 250-550, standby 250-550, battery < 30 at 250-550 and cpu temp >37 celcius to 250-550.

this morning i overslept for about a half hour and my alarm on my phone was going for about 30 minutes. when i woke up i shut the alarm off and realized my phone was really hot. looks at the temps and they were high. how can my alarm over heat my phone haha. its an alarm plus it was at 250-550. i really have no idea what i did to it for this to happen to my droid. i have changed roms a few times a week for the past 2 or 3 weeks and my overclock was set to 550-800 most of the time with an ocational 800-1000 (not often at all). i really have no idea but i have only noticed this the day after i installed drotheme.

im really hoping it is a cellphone coverage issue and that by installing pete's baseband update and programming my phone will fix it. i haven't updated with *228 in a while

EDIT***: I was looking through all droid to see if there were any updates for zeus droid and then i came across this. its a thread for drotheme and i am not the only one who started to notice the over heating after installing this. here is the link and their posts are midway through the page.

yeah im starting to spike into the 50c its getting crazy i think its mainly due to me being inside of a 70 something degree house without ac so it has no way to cool down time to see how she acts at stock speeds. and ive tried p3 and bekits kernels both low voltage both 1ghz usually run at 800 or less mhz

i heard you are not supposed to use setcpu with BB1.0. I highly doubt that it's what is causing your overheating but give it a shot. Pete put in the post with 1.0 that there is no need for it.

oh. ok well ill try putting it at default and see what happens. but im really starting to think now that Bizz has expressed that he has been experiencing the same issue due to possibly the temperature in your environment but i dont know how to avoid the temp spikes if that is the case.

out of curiosity, could you point me to Pete's post that said not to use setcpu. It's not that i don't believe you, but i just don't see it on his post saying that at the alldroid forum. thanks

[Themed Rom] NexTheme ESE81 R3 Release (4/21/10) - New Goodies!

2 totally diff roms.
That thread is for the stock/BB themed and I believe you have/had cyanogens rom with Manups DroTheme.

Also when switching kernels make sure that you re set all your settings. One kernel might be 250/400/550/600/700/800/1000
Ther next might be 250/400/500/550/700/900/1000
all the settings that you had at 550 or 800 will now default to 1000 as there is no 550 or 800 in the new kernel.
So if you had your phone set to 550 while charging it is really at 1000 all night.

If Pete said that and the kernel is a 1000 kernel. That is possibly the stupidest advice he could have given.

yeah that is dumb advice without setcpu your not going to get the 1000 or if you do you cant control your profiles which could lead to more issues with heat

I think I'm going to unroot tonight to see if it continues to happen. If it does ill just bring the phone to Verizon and play ignorant

just make sure they give you a good phone ive heard of people getting phones that wont go above 800mhz

most likely coincidence but you never know the way these processors come out some are better than others.

haha this sucks i dont want to unroot. i just don't want to risk burning out my phone. its gonna be so boring :eek:
