How come my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge doesn't update to Nougat 7.0?

I got a new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge recently because my old one broke. My old one was up to date with Nougat 7.0, but this one is Marshmallow 6.0 (an older version). Is there any way that I can get Nougat 7.0 on this one? I checked for system updates, but it just says it's up to date. If it matters, then my carrier is AT&T. I remember a while ago when I first got the update on my old phone. I'd rather not be stuck with an old version if I can help it. Nougat 7.0 has so much more features, convenience, better templates, etc. Was the update a one time thing? Can I not get it at all on my new phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Is the phone from AT&T as well, or did you get it unlocked from somewhere else? If it's a phone that was originally with a different carrier, it has to be on that carrier's network to get official system updates.

Yes, the phone is definitely from AT&T. I was able to update the phone when I got it, but it wasn't anything major or big. I thought it would install the Nougat 7.0, but it didn't. Would I be able to personally contact AT&T to get the update? Or maybe it's not updating because I'm using my old sim card? Would that even matter? The sim numbers are the same anyway.

I actually see an option under check for updates that says continue update, but I can't click on it. Maybe I need to be connected to wifi to continue it? Not sure if that option is always right there though regardless or not if I did the update or not.

I wouldn't think the SIM card would matter, as long as it's an AT&T SIM for a valid account.

Have you asked AT&T about this? If they can't help, then try also the Samsung reps at your local Best Buy.

This probably won't do much, but try also wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24999
