Stumbled on this gummy review vid today.

[YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jjPAxzqtdI&feature=player_embedded#![/YT]

I am kind of a AOKP fan but after watching this vid, I decided to install gummy 0.7.0 today. Going through the settings, I think this thing is every bit the equal to codename and aokp. As the vid points out, the one downside is you can't change the look of the toggles. No biggie at all.

So now this rom will be added to my "rom rotation." Man, I never had a rom rotation on any phone. lol

We gots threads for alot of different roms here and thought I'd add a gummy thread.

I think Gummy is great. It was one of my faves on the Droid X. I used it on my Nexus before I was on Codename.

My thoughts exactlly, this is such an awesome device.

looks like I have a new ROM to play with!!!

Looks pretty good. I really don't see anything in there that AOKP does not already have. A solid alternative just the same.

Looks good but i agree it doesnt appear like it has anything aokp doesnt have. Since aokp has been very stable and has lots of mods and themes, ill probably just stick with it.

I liked Gummy back in my DX days. Custom ROMs are like sports teams and many times they are "better" for arbitrary reasons that aren't based on anything but personal preference.

There also seems to be a bit of a popularity contest that happens too. No matter what device I use there's always that one ROM that's the most popular even when it's never really that much better than many of the others. It seems to get a critical mass of users and takes off. Right now for the GNex that's Codename, but I'm sure when CM9 hits it'll take over that spot.

There's nothing wrong with Codename, I've used it, but I don't think it's really that much different or better than many others.

As long as a ROM doesn't crash or reboot it's good in my book and Gummy was always solid.

I like ROMs that have a good lean AOSP feature set with a very few but critical additions, are built for speed and snapiness, come with a feature rich kernel, are frequently updated and have a responsive developer(s). Right now, that's Bugless Beast, at least for me.

Pete hasn't done any kernel work on it yet, but that's coming, so I'm using Franco's kernel and I like it a lot.

i have found them to be all pretty much the same and offer the same features trough a "toolbox", and those features are not really anything amazing, just random tweaks that dont really add much for me. I just want a stable OS that runs that apps I want and has good battery life. I really couldnt care less about changing the colors of the softkeys, carrier text, or battery percentage styles and all those other things the toolbox's offer. Not that anything is wrong with having those features, they just dont do anything for me.

Well put, digitalslacker. I've been running Bugless with Lou's Defiant kernel and it's great. I've given most of the other *popular* ROMs a go, but I always end up back with Pete's. I like some of the add-ins of the others, but they end up feeling bloated (for lack of a better word) to me.

Yup I agree, I always feel like I'm sacrificing speed for features I won't use or don't even want. That being said, I'm installing the latest AKOP right now just to see what the fuss is about.

I ran Gummy for a couple of weeks, and it was pretty solid. My battery life wasn't that great through even after undervolting. I recently made the switch to Liquid Beta 2, and I am never going back. Once the bugs are worked out, it will be great. Small footprint, snappy, light, and full featured.

Having used gummy for a day, I can give some ui differences from aokp 21.

On the lockscreen, aokp actually uses the app icon that you choose for a custom app whereas gummy just has this funky icon for any app. Kinda hard to know what it is when swiping the circle. Gummy shows battery percent on lockscreen whereas aokp doesn't.

On the pulldown toggles, gummy has set ones and no choice between switches or icon buttons, and can't change the order of the toggles. Aokp lets you do all of the above, plus choose which ones you want displayed.
Also aokp has the TORCH toggle which replaces any flashlight app. Really nice that Roman baked that in.

Other than the above, Gummy is a solid choice. All the good performance features that setcpu has. Underhood stuff I can't comment on but they seem to run equally good. Both on franco 14.4, which after using 15.* seems the best for me.

I just installed AOKP milestone 3 and uh its dam good. :D:p

Oh before I got on milestone, I tried liquid beta2, that still has a ways to go yet. Like poster above me said, it has potential to be great. Gawd I flash so much stuff!

edit: One other thing, kinda ocd, but aokp lets you put the menu softkey on both sides whereas gummy only puts the menu key on the right.

Finally rooted and installed Gummy. So far I'm loving it! I was a rom whore on the og Droid but I don't see myself switching around too much. This is a keeper!
