How come not all functions of the phone work on some custom ROMs?

Not a flame, as you guys are far more technical in your sleep than I ever will be. How come it works like that? Some ROMs it's GPS, some it's the camera, what gives? You piece the ROM together, right? What happens that some of the features of the phone don't work?

Once again, not meaning to criticize as I've seen awesome work out of the developers that roam around here and other places, I am just curious.

I'm fairly new to this myself, so there's a lot that I can't even begin to speak to, but I know a lot of the Devs work together and share certain features, so that's likely the reason why you may have similar problems across multiple ROM's. Additionally, my understanding is that they're working with source code not fully customized for specific devices, in our case the ThunderBolt, so it's really up to them to get it all working - I don't think it's their work that takes a build with GPS that would otherwise work on a TB and somehow disables it.

That said, I too am intrigued by the troubleshooting process and what goes into taking several components and making a fully working build out of it. The people involved are doing heavy work for simple donations, purely for the love of doing it.

A lot of things won't work correctly until HTC releases the kernel source.

Also the gb build that was being used before this new one chingy has got had lots of bugs.
