How common is the 'phone not turning on' problem?

My M7 died on me and never came back on, so I was wondering if this was an issue with the M8 too? Just the phone turning off and never coming back on. I had a friend whose Galaxy S3 did the same thing.

If it is, is it a very common issue for both the M7 & M8? I loved my M7 and should be upgrading soon, but idk if its a smart decision. Right now prices for both devices are doable, but is it worth it to even invest ~$200?

I would hate to sink in some money and have it blow up in my face again :-\

My M8 died after 2 weeks. Screen went DOA and never came back.Verizon sent a replacement that I'm just setting up to my likeing right now. No problems so far. Verizon rep said they rarely see M8's being returned for problems. Trying to decide what messaging app to commit too.

I know for a previous android phone I had I had GoSMS, but that phone was old & with GoSMS it got super slow. I barely had M7 long enough to even see it get slow.. but I personally loved the stock messaging app it had. it was simple & clean enough for me.
