I appear to have an instand upload photo of my thumb in my Gallery but dont seem to be able to delete its as I can those from camera...any advice appreciated.

I believe you can go to Picasa, log into your Google account and delete it from there.

You have to log in to Picasa Web from a browser. You can then delete it from there.

If you want to stop the 'instant uploads' from happening, you can disable it in the settings of the google+ app.
