How do I access Mobeam barcode scanner on the phone?

Mobeam

Apparently it transmits some sort of light pulse that mimics a barcode so any bar code scanner can read your coupons (older supermarket scanners can't read coupons off cell phone screens).

What I'm curious about is that the website markets this as a way to collect paper coupons digitally. That would be great, but I'm not sure how that works since most retail stores need to retain the physical coupon to prevent use of duplicates.

I find it very odd that the S4 is the only phone on the market to have this technology built into it yet neither samsung or mobeam have actually explained how we can use it..

I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung excluded it from the production release (I'm assuming it's just a software program) due to timing issues...and Mobeam is keeping quiet so it can still receive relevance and visibility.

During the SGS4 announcement Samsung also said there would be a feature where screen unlocks could be disabled if you automatically connect to a specified Wi-Fi hotspot (like your home router). I haven't been able to find that, and other forums said that also wasn't included in the final production release software.

Mobeam is actual hardware from what I can tell hence why the Samsung s4 is the only device that can use it. The hardware must be integrated into the device for it to be able to produce the pulses of light.

Its quite possible that it didn't get used in the end though. Very annoying that neithe company has mentioned it at all

OK I emailed Mobeam and got an answer. They say the first mobeam enabled application will be available later in the month. Here is my email string.

I have reviewed your website and videos on how mobeam works yet I haven't seen how to operate it on the Galaxy S4. I do not see an app or anything to actually scan cards and use them. Do you have any information regarding this?
Thank you,
Chuck

Hi Charles,

Thank you for your interest in mobeam. We expect the first mobeam-enabled application to be available later this month. We've captured your contact information and will be happy to send you a note just as soon as it is available.

The barcode emulator hardware is available in other smartphones too.. Galaxy s4 and the galaxy note 2 to be sure and I'm guessing other Samsung and other phones.. If you go to your dialer and type *#0*# it will open a diagnostic test app.. Click on the barcode emulator button and you can see the hardware in action. I'm guessing that mobeam is just slow getting the software app ready for prime time..

Mobeam is going to be connected to Samsung Wallet app. The Samsung Wallet app is not available to general public as of yet.

Awesome!

Just wonder why play store says that my device isn't compatible D:

Mine is the galaxy s4 sgh-i337m

Hi Rick - Due to content distribution restrictions with regard to the coupon content in the app, we cannot make the app available to S4 users not located in the US (or at least using US carriers). We are working to create a similar app (absent the coupon content, at least initially) that we hope will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Finallly! I just installed and am interested in trying this out soon.

Problems so far: It didn't scan/store my Walgreens loyalty card which uses a QR code on its loyalty card.

Problems I foresee: I have no idea how the technology works, but it says to turn the phone face down onto the scanner to beam. Once turned over, the phone vibrates but I physically don't see anything happening on the front of the phone. What about the store scanners that are the gun style that scan downwards onto a barcode facing up? Will it work then?

I still get horribly embarrassed when I try to pay with Google Wallet and it doesn't work properly and everybody in line behind me thinks I'm stupid...I can imagine this doing the same thing. :-\

Hello,
When you dial in *#0*# and call that you will be given an options menu. From there you can acces multiple fucntions of the phone itself. But keep in mind. This works for mine phone and I live in the Netherlands. Maybe this doesn't work in your area. I certainly hope it worked out for you.

Greetings
