How do I change the home screen layout

Hi,
I don't like the space taken up on the home screen by the date/time and weather display.
If I touch and hold the display I get a box round the display which looks as if you can make the display smaller but when I try it just bounces back to it's original size.
Can I make the display of these smaller or maybe get rid of them both ?
Thanks

The above sounds like they are widgets, if you hold your finger down on them, does it give you the option to move them around? you should be able to remove them by dragging them up to the top beside a small trash can. The widgets can't be re-sized unfortunately.

It might be worth while looking at downloading a different launcher, like Google Now from the play store? other launchers give you more freedom to change widget sizes etc.

Some widgets allow you to resize them, but won't allow just any size. There are minimum sizes and maximums. You can get rid of it by tapping and holding on the widget and dragging it to the trash can. To place another one where it was, just tap and hold the empty space and select WIDGETS.

You can download other widgets from the Play Store that allow for smaller ones, too.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the quick response.
Dumb question but only just started using my memopad - what is the difference between a widget and a normal app icon ?
Did manage to get rid of the date/time and weather display by dragging off the home page to the left. I don't have a trash can anywhere on the home screen.

The delete method varies with device. Most use a trash can or an 'X' to visually help, but I guess your device handles it differently.

A widget is an interactive way of showing things, and it depends on the app. Some display just time and weather in a fancy way, others show you conversations (like Whatsapp) or small snippets of content (like Flipboard).

App icons are just shortcuts to the apps. Other than having unread counters (some of them do, not all of them), they don't do much but sit pretty and wait for you to open them.
