How do I change the signal selection settings on the AT&T Atrix HD?

Have the AT&T Atrix HD MB886 Android version 4.1.1 and have a "location" problem with the 4G LTE service in my area. On a good day, sunny weather, wind <3 MPH blowing from 172 degrees, holding the phone tipped at 28 degrees and tilted at 17 degrees, in my right hand while blinking just the left eye and smacking my lips I might get 2 bars. The rest of the time lots of calls don't make it and sometimes it's hours before the Voicemail notification comes thru. Go outside, walk a few hundred feet, and I can (sometimes) show 3 bars with an occasional kick at 4. Inside the house the IPhone 4 my wife uses shows pretty much full time 3 bars and sometimes 4.

The big difference is the HD stays on "autotune" full time, and is grayed out when it comes to signal choice, and stays on 4G LTE. Hers drops to 3 bars when you come thru the door.(I think hers grabs 3G in the house. Don't need 4G inside, have full WiFi.)

Is there any way to change the signal selection from the "auto" state to "manual select" so I can changes selections and see if I get a signal strength that is workable?

(According to Motorola and AT&T tech support there is no way to change that setting. AT&T sends you to Motorola and Motorola sends you back.)

Thanks in advance for any assists.

EDIT: Found the problem was in the phone itself. Took it to a service center and one of the tech's there played with it for maybe 5 minutes before saying he'd grab a new one and set it up. An hour after leaving the new one went on the blink and did not respond to the touch in the bottom 1/4 of the screen. Drove the 25 miles back to the DSC and got another one. This one seems to work just fine showing the same 2 bars. Receiving calls, texts, DATA grabbing email, not losing connections. Seems to work just fine so, i guess, it was an internal phone problem not a signal problem.

Also asked tech there about the ability to change from 4G to 3G, if needed and he said it is an automatic response to signals. Can't do any "adjustments" to settings because it is "hard wired" as it is so "untouchable". Hope this helps anyone else having problems.
