Creating Groups in Contacts

Have a Galaxy S5. I am trying to create groups in contacts but when I get to the step of adding contacts to the group no names/contacts appear. The only option to add is Voicemail. All contacts are stored on the SIM card. I can also create a new group but still don't get to select names from existing contacts. Any suggestions?

Re: Creating Groups in Contacts

I don't know why you wouldn't have a batch operation for this... If you open the "People" app and scroll over to the group panel, I see each group and the number contacts stored for each, then touching the group I get the options at the top to (+) add, search, and menu. Touching the (+) shows me a popup menu with "Add existing contacts" or "Create a new contact". Touching Add existing shows me all of my contacts, a search box, and menu option. The menu is "Select all" and Deselect all".

It's not as easy as batch selection process would be, but you can create your group(s) then go down through your contacts and use the edit contact function to add them to the groups that apply within the contact itself. For small groups this may not be a bad choice, but for larger or multiple groups this could be tedious.

The only other thing I can think of as to why your contacts maybe wouldn't display would be your display options. While in your people app under the contacts in the upper lefthand corner it will say "Phonebook" under that it may say anything from "Multiple Sources", to your Google account, to SIM or Facebook. Be sure that the source you are wanting to draw from is checked to be displayed. I'm guessing that it is but that's the only other reason I could think of as to why you wouldn't have more contacts when attempting the batch operation...?

Re: Creating Groups in Contacts

Hello. If you only have contacts on the sim card they are not Google, Samsung or device contacts. In fact there are arguably not contacts at all, just names with a phone number.
If you want to change them to contacts, select Contacts - Menu - Contacts to Display - Sim - Merge Contacts - Merge with Google or Samsung (account). If you do this with Device Contacts they will disappear from the Device Contacts list. If they are erased from the sim (I doubt it), you should be able to copy them back, up to the sim limit.

Re: Creating Groups in Contacts

You cannot have groups on SIM contacts. It's one of several limitations of SIM contacts. I do not recommend saving contacts to the SIM. Saving contacts to your Google (Gmail) account gives you many more options - including groups - plus automatic backup and easy restoration.

That was one thing I had not considered, no groups on SIM. My only SIM contracts are the balance, fast pay, and update. Never tried to keep contacts there.

i've got a Fix for this, since i too was struggling with my contact groups. What you can do is go to play store and grab yourself an app called "Asus Contacts" and thats just about it.!!

Note: theres one named "Contacts" and another one named "Dialer and Contacts" you want the second one with the dialer for the complete experience.
Hope this helps.!
