How do I disable 4G on Galaxy S4 to save battery life? Can't find "Phone Info" page

I just discovered an app called "Advanced Signal Status" in the Play Store that allows me to bring up the service menu, but I think you need to be rooted to get that functionality of the app to work. EDIT: I am using a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.3.

Confirmed, the Advanced Signal Status app works. Thanks for the tip. I had to root my phone to use it, which I have never done before, but it was easy.

I am including a link with the instructions I used for rooting. You just need to make sure that you have the firmware version that the developer references.

Instructions for rooting Verizon Galaxy S4 on Jelly Bean/Android 4.3: [ROOT] Saferoot: Root for VRUEMJ7, MK2, and Android 4.3 - xda-developers

Newbie here

Thanks for this. I just got a used s4 and thought it may have been a lemon- signal wasn't good, etc. Read up on it and see that 4.3 really did mess with this phone. Rooted it and loaded "advanced signal status" (4G switch and others still don't work). After switching off LTE, I get great reception again. Really appreciate this information!

I tried using the Advanced Signal Status app. However, when I try to go the page to change settings (to CDMA for example), I get a message saying that permission is denied by manufacturer of phone.

The Android 4.3 update seems to have pulled permission for apps to use this menu. Has anyone else found a way to toggle between 3G and 4G without rooting the phone?

Thanks

Use buildprop editor which you can download from the playstore. Must have root. Then add these codes:
Once installed, open up buildprop editor and then click on the + sign at the bottom of page. A popup should come out.

For property name:
ril.sales_code

property value:
LOL

Then Add.
One more time, click the + sign
ro.csc.sales_code

LOL.

REBOOT PHONE MANUALLY now.
Credit to autoprime from XDA. I ripped this from the sim unlock of the sprint galaxy s4 to enable APN settings. In sprint, it allows toggling of various networks. I did this on my verizon s4 and it puts CDMA and CDMA/LTE settings on my network settings. I chose CDMA only for 3g.

Advanced Signal Status is working on my (just) rooted Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.3. I can now switch between 4G (LTE), 3G (EVDO) and 1x (CDMA). About time!

Thanks for the tip!

No work around yet for this issue? I like being able to turn off 4G when I go into buildings to save battery. I can't do it either after this last update. Come on Verizon. Some of us want to shut of 4G for a reason. Give us the option.

If you turn on developer options by pressing the build number tab 5 times in the about device section then the mobile network let's u access all and choose freely hope helps

The Elevator Pitch:

Zero-out your network. I have a crap wi-fi router so I trashed it and snagged another one. Did the install and the Chromecast dongle was the worst. Here's what I did:

Zero out your Chromecast. Zero out your Apps. Grab the little black-button on your Chromecast dongle and hang on to it. Do not cheat. It says: 28 seconds. 25-one-thousdand....26-one-thousand...27-one-thousand... Your Chromecast dongle will suffer - let it.

Once it is whimpering, let go of the button. Re-install the Chromecast app on your not-so-Smarphone (KitKat 4.4 is mine). Launch it after the install.

It's going to wander around and try to find the dongle for a few minutes - let it. It's a machine. The dongle is going to hang there with a red-LED. <whatever> Let Google pretend to know what they're doing. They'll figure it out in a minute or two. It will pop - You'll be able to change the dynamic Wi-Fi name in a couple. I chose: "MiddleFinger" as mine. It works... <shrug>
