How do I eliminate a repetitive "sending failed" start-up message?

At every re-start I have two notifications of exchange emails from last year that supposedly failed to send. I have no Outbox messages on my phone or Exchange server. If I ever got the "sending failed" notifications on my Exchange server, they were deleted 5 months ago. I cannot get the messages to stop appearing on my phone. Ideas?
