How do I gain access to edit APN settings on my Verizon Htc M8?

I have an HTC One M8 Verizon variant with Kit Kat 4.4.4. I am s off and root with Sunshine and have SuperSU. I need to change APN settings to cricket to receive mms. I would prefer not to flash a new ROM if possible as I am new at this and don't want to risk bricking my phone. Any suggestions or successes?

Settings/Connections/More networks/Mobile networks. See if you can change the APN for your carrier (maybe including changing the name so you don't get confused). If not, see if you can add an APN, set it up for Cricket, then choose the new one as the one to use.

Verizon phones are now auto detect and do not allow edit or adding of APNs. This is why I went s off and root to try and override but am uncertain as how to proceed.

From a little research, it seems that you can no longer change the APN (or add one) on a Verizon M8, and you can't flash back to Jellybean (which allowed it) either.

What is the purpose of root and s off if you cannot make such changes on your phone? I thought that was Tue whole idea was to gain administrative rights on your phone.
