How do I get a reinstalled app to use existing data - Samsung Galaxy S5

I just had to do a Factory Reset. Most of the games and apps I used were running off the local SD Drive. Now after the factory reset I need to reinstall my apps but when I install them they act like there is no other existing data out there. Is there a way to install them and have them use any existing data that may already exist.
