S5 light stuck on

I charged my phone over night and when I retrieved it, the white light on back cover is stuck on. Tried turning it off through flashlight app but that only seemed to vary the brightness. Perhaps it's the camera flash? Took out battery but light came on again as soon as battery went back in. Shutdown and restart does nothing.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: S5 light stuck on

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have a 3rd party flashlight app, or are you talking about a stock app? If it's 3rd party, uninstall it and see if that helps. Do you have any other 3rd party apps that have control over the LED flash (or the Camera, since the two are connected)?

Re: S5 light stuck on

Thanks for posting, B. Diddy. I uninstalled all third party apps associated with camera or flashlight. Also did a force stop on phone's camera and restarted phone. No luck. Light remains on.

Re: S5 light stuck on

I know it's a very long shot, but before the factory reset just try one thing. Go to settings - apps - Google app and uninstall updates. Reboot the phone and see it something changes. Tomorrow with more time I'll explain the reason of this wild guess. :)

Re: S5 light stuck on

A couple of days ago I downloaded App Permissions. With it you can organise apps by permissions,* as simple as that. With a similar app a problem with WiFi was fixed in another thread. After I read your posts I did a quick search and the Google app came up with the FLASHLIGHT and CAMERA permissions (go figure). There are lots of apps that need the flashlight permission but I'm not sure if that's true or just a problem with that searching app.

You can try with Permissions Explorer, a similar app, and see if you find something. But it seems that a factory reset is on its way. Just to make sure that is not a hardware problem. Sort of new phone under warranty?

Good luck.

Re: S5 light stuck on

I have a galaxy s5. Flashlight wouldn’t turn off. Took it into Best Buy & the Samsung rep said, “Don’t use the pre-installed flashlight app from the toolbox.” & he showed me the one in widgets. That one works like a charm. So I have pinned it to my home screen. You press down on the home screen anywhere until the widget icon appears at the bottom. Press on that & scroll through the list & find the “Torch” one. Press on that & drag it to your home screen. Ignore the other flashlight app. Torch works.

I was having this issue and couldn't find a fix. So I came here looming to see if anything would work. I read Mellowg's message and decided to go to settings >> general >> safety assistance >> emergency mode, turn it on. It brings up its on button for flashlight. Got it to turn it off. Going to stop using the toolbox flashlight from now on though.

Re: S5 light stuck on

Hi
Did you get resolved? same issue here, light remains on until I take out battery. comes straight back on when battery put back in.
Does not turn off in emergency mode.
Not had any third party torch apps, only using the widget one.

Re: S5 light stuck on

I'm in the same boat as you, Garrytwotimes.

I have never installed a 3rd-party flashlight app. I have never even used the flashlight. But in the past two weeks, my flashlight turns on spontaneously, even when the phone is sitting idle. Nothing I do turns the light off, other than powering the phone down or removing the battery. However, it goes one frustration further. If I power the phone down to turn off the flashlight, the phone won't power on again. I have to remove and reinstall the battery to get the phone back on.

Saturday I did a full factory reset of the phone and hoped that would solve the problem. It seemed to, for less than a day. I'm at wit's end with this piece of crap.

I am in same situation ... never used the torch...did not know there was a widget till i read here. no 3pty app....

Trawled internet... no solution... have to keep taking battery out!

Help please

I accidentally caused my light to go on with my Android phone. I don't know how, but there were no apps on either. Turns out all I had to do was swipe down on my home screen. Press on the bar that says the time and date. There's a button for wifi, Bluetooth, a few others, and the flashlight. I just turned it off from there.
