How do I get my Galaxy Note 10.1 to switch off?

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1. I can't get it to switch off. The screen is black and is just saying
Samsung galaxy Note 10.1, as it would when you first switch it on.

Welcome to Android Central! If it's frozen on the bootscreen, that can indicate a corrupt firmware or a hardware problem. Try forcing a shutdown by pressing and holding Power and Vol Down for about 10-15 seconds. Then see if you can boot into recovery and wipe the cache: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11018
