How do I get my phone to stop asking for a password?

Android Central Question

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus running Oreo. I had set up iris recognition which forced me to create a password. I figured this would keep my phone secure, but it's more of a pain than anything. I'm especially worried about my fat finger hitting the "Emergency Call" button; I'm picturing talking to emergency services and (unsuccessfully) explaining, "My fat finger hit the button on my stupid cell phone."

I can't find ANY way to get rid of the password. The iris recognition was worthless, didn't recognize me in the same room I was in with the exact same (bright) lighting, so I stopped using that in favor of the password, but like I said, the password is scary because of that "Emergency Call" button. And maybe it won't actually dial emergency services, but I won't test it out.

The best I could do was set the lock screen to engage after 30 minutes of inactivity. There was no option to keep it off or let it go longer. 30 minutes is the most before the lock screen will engage.

I know there's a way to do a factory reset, but I don't want to factory reset it. I'd lose all of my data over this one dumb problem. I just want to turn off the password. I can change it, but I can't get rid of it. I'm SO frustrated. None of the online instructions I've found in a search work on my phone.

Thank you for any help.
