how do i get my s5 and google maps voice navigation to work

our google maps app shows direction but we do not get voice directions

Welcome to Android Central! Open Maps, swipe in from the left, tap Settings>Navigation Settings, and make sure Voice Level is set to Normal. Also tap Play Test Sound to make sure it can actually play the voice to you.

If the Play Voice Over Bluetooth setting is on, then make sure you don't have a connected Bluetooth headset nearby, since the voice might be playing there.
