Moving from a blackberry and iphone and both would have a msg pop up on my phone when a friend checked in somewhere through foursquare. I can't figure out how to get the same functionality on the Incredible. It's unreasonable to only get live updates if I physically have to log into the foursquare app and view what friends checked in when. Afterall, that is no longer LIVE notification. Am I missing something or is this just a feature not supported by Android?

It seems you can only set it to send you email notifications when friends check in... If you install the Foursquare Widget, it will list where your friends are and will refresh the list at specified intervals or when you manually click refresh...
You can visit the FourSquare website and tell it to send you a text message when your individual friends check in.
I have the foursquare app on my HTC Inspire. I have all the options selected to receive notifications but the only notifications I receive are approved friend requests. Any suggestions??

On my dinc I get a little icon in the upper left when a friend checks in.
I am rooted, but the app should work the same in that it sucks.
