how do i get past the messsge, "communicate with google servers, " when trying to set up my phone?

I recently bought a used,
LM-X210(g), and am trying to set it up for the first time, it says "checking info... " and then after a while i gives me, "Can't communicate with google servers," message

Very frustrated, what do i do?
