How do I get rid of Google Assistant on the main button press please?

I understand from reading other threads that Google Assistant is here to stay, but is there a way of disconnecting the launch of the application from the home button? I use the fingerprint scanner on the home button and it will insist on launching Google Assistant every time it unlocks the phone. I don't want to root the phone or do anything weird with it, but I would like to disconnect the Google Assistant Launch - any suggestions please?

Can you not just turn off Google Assistant altogether? Wouldn't this prevent the home button from attempting to launch it?

Not sure of where it is on your phone, but here is where it looks like it is on my phone (Huawei P10 Plus)

Settings > Google > Search > Google Assistant Settings > Devices Phone > Google Assistant (Off)

Try that and see if it helps. Adversely, see if you can find the settings that control what the home button does and see if you can somehow disassociate it from there.

Hi tfp - I found that chain of commands on the S7, but I can't turn it off, as what it keeps wanting me to do is to turn it on (something I've not yet done since it is the last things I want to happen - if I could delete the app. I would do so, call me a Luddite if you want to, but I much prefer to initiate searches manually when I want to)

jasonandrews25788 - I found that too, but despite turning off as many things the assist app can do as I could it doesn't stop running on a longer home key press once the phone is awake although it appear slightly better on the fingerprint wake-up press.

Why do these companies - like Google, Microsoft and Apple all assume that they know more about what the users want than the users themselves - they foist all this garbage on us without given an option to uninstall it. If anyone knows where the appropriate site is to send feedback to Google about this is then please let me know!

Try this:

Open up the Google App,
Touch the hamburger menu in the top left of the screen (looks like this: ≡),
Select “Settings,”
Select “Your Feed” (which is toward the bottom of the options listed),
Touch the switch to the right of “Feed” and toggle it to off.

Hopefully this works.

I can open my phone using the fingerprint scanner without launching Google Assistant; I touch the home button without depressing it. If I need to launch Google Assistant, I press and hold the home button.

To disable Google assistant follow this
Settings>Google>search>Google assistant settings>phone- then it should say Google assistant and a switch beside it- turn it off

I'm using a Samsung galaxy s7 edge but im sure any other Samsung phone would be the same.

Sorry for the late reply but anyone else with the same problem can use this
