How do I stop this error from coming up each time when I plug the power cord in? I have no desire to transfer data...

You're plugging into a computer? Get a power-only cable for that. If you're plugging into the charger, there's a defect in the charger, the cable or the phone charging port, making it think that something is connected to the data wires. If you can't see what and blow it out (or very carefully remove it with a wooden toothpick), it has to go to a repair shop or you have to keep looking at the message.

I'm plugging it into the USB port in a car. So you're saying if I just get a power only cable/nondata it should get rid of that error?

I'm not on my S3 at the moment, so check in developer options for USB configuration, set it to charge.
