AC Question

I'm a former iPhone user, happily making the transition to Android since I live in a Windows/Google-centric universe.

One maddening problem I'm having, however, on my Moto G plus (Android 7.0) is that when I dictate a text or email, and want to use the keyboard to clean up a mistake or two, I can't find it. The little-colored cursor icon appears and I tap it, but it just gives me more text options, not a keyboard.

Where does the keyboard go in these instances and how do I find it when I need it?

In settings, my Physical keyboard is set to "Speech." What setting, widget, or whatever do I need to access in order to fix this problem?

Tried to search the forum for help on this but didn't turn up anything.

Thx for any help offered.

Bob

Welcome to the forums. You should have a physical keyboard also in Settings to choose from, though I have not used the speech function. I have moved your post to the Moto G forum for more help from fellow owners.

Thx for the reply and for moving the question to the Moto G5 Plus forum. I didn't realize that existed.

Hopefully, someone there can help me sort this out.

Hello Bob! Thanks for registering and welcome to the forums! Let me ask a couple of question to be sure I completely understand your problem. Do you get a red mic icon when voice typing? If so, clicking on it should stop the voice typing and return the keyboard to the screen. As far as I know editing texts by voice commands is very limited to just a couple of Google programs and under some conditions.

Also, in your first post it wasn't clear which Moto model you have. It is the G5 plus, right? If so, we could move your thread to the specific forum.

Sorry, Moto G5 Plus. A great phone by the way. I can't get over how much better it is in many ways than my $650.00 iPhone 6s and costs 1/3 the price, unlocked.

I'm not trying to edit by voice, just dictate. Then if I want to make a correction, I'd like to have access to the keyboard.

Anyway, I just figured it out. If dictating by voice, I can't pause the dictation and then edit directly with the keyboard. I have to click off the dictation and then the keyboard appears. That's different from the practice on the iPhone which I'm accustomed to.

Now if I can just figure out how to locate and send screen shots!

Thx for your help.

Glad you managed to resolve it! Yeah, the G5 plus is a great mid-ranger, my wife's got one and she loves it.

About the screenshots, you can see them in the Google Photos apps under albums - screenshots. To post them here it will depend on which app you are using. See this guide.

There are a few tricks to make that phone even better that you can find around the forums. Feel free to ask anything you need.
