How do I get the microphone (talk to text) back onto my texting keyboard?

how do I get the microphone (talk to text) back onto my texting keyboard?

somehow the microphone got changed to the "settings" icon. now I can't press a button and speak my msg into the phone.
on common settings, I'm not able to select to have the "voice typing key" displayed. It's grayed out for some reason. please help... -Carolyn
