Question How do I get Voice to list my contacts alphabetically?

if I open Voice, and list my contacts, S' group is between 'J' and 'K'. Messages, Phone and Contacts continues to list them ok. How to fix?

Just a long shot of a suggestion but if you go into the Settings >> Apps menu and open up the Voice app's entry is Contacts enabled or disabled in its Permissions?

Has this been a long-standing problem or something that just went awry recently?
If recently, have you tried just restarting your phone? That clears up a lot of one-off glitches that just pop up. This is kind of an odd situation since your Contacts app is showing your contacts entries the way you want but not the Voice app.

At the top of the contacts in voice should say all contacts, custom or have your email. This is a filter and while it shouldn't affect the alphabets it might be.

Have you tried changing the view /list?

I had to check but mine are totally in ABC order all the way through. Which makes me think there is something wrong with a name in your contacts, especially since you're being so specific.

Let me ask a few questions before trying to answer.
How many S contacts do you have?

You can see your contacts and we cannot so I have to ask for clarification, is the first name in the correct field when you view the contact? So when you created it both names aren't in the last name box, or the first name, if singular, isn't in the last name box.

Is there a space in front of the name? Could you have added a space accidentally before typing the name?

Dose the name, or names I guess if you have more than one, appear under the heading S? Each set of names appears under a letter heading, does the S category heading appear out of order as well?

I know these sound like silly questions but it's just odd that one category would appear out of alphabetical order when none of the others do, or am I mistaken, and others do but you're only using this one as an example?

The only other thing that comes to mind is other languages. I don't know how that might work but I'm reminded of German keyboards that swap the Z and the Y. Obviously this isn't the same as that but it's the only case I can think of where letters are switched from a quote unquote typical order.

I'll be curious to hear your answers.

Yes Contacts are allowed. This just started within maybe the last week. The entire group of names starting with 'S' are inbetween the J and K, maybe 20 of them. There is nothing between 'R' and 'T'. I rebooted my phone yesterday but the problem persists. No contacts seem to be missing. Under 'add a contact' is an asterisk with some commonly used contacts and then starts the groups 'A', 'B' etc.

Welcome to AC!
Which device do you use?

This is a Samsung A32, latest voice and OS. I did figure this out. The first entry in the contacts is
'St Joe blah blah'. Its been there for 4 years. I changed it to Saint Joe, and all the 'S' entries went back
to the correct place. If I edit it again to 'St', then they all listed incorrectly again.

Thanks for the device, I'm not clear on where your going for voice and OS? Your using like Bixby or Google's assistant?

It updates automatically. Nearly every day there are multiple updates for different apps. I dont know what Bixby is, and Im pretty sure I dont use the Google Assistant. Voice says it updates from Google Play Store. Its listed as being version 2024.06.17.645382423 if that helps anyways. Im chalking it up to something just a little odd with the last update of Voice. All the other apps had no issues with listing the contacts.

You must be talking about voice access in accessibility settings

So there was an update that caused your abbreviation to disrupt your whole list. Weird for sure. I figured it would be a contact issue. I wasn't expecting it to be one contact messing with everything but if it was the first entry. I'd be curious to know if making a fake abbrev. like Kr. would have a similar effect on the Ks? Anyway glad you found the solution.

Hope to see you in other threads.

Best wishes

P.S. I noticed that you typed it as St is that how it was listed in your contacts? Does it matter if you type it as St. with the period? Or if you used one but just didn't here what happens if you don't?
