How do I increase the volume for ringtones?

volume issues

I just started using the g3, first android device actually. When I download a notification sounds they play loud in the music player but as a ringtone they are super quiet. Is there a way to adjust like a volume offset or something without using an app? Sorry, I know all the obvious stuff but I have the volumes all maxed out but the sounds are still too quiet. They play loud if they play through the media player but not when I set them as notifications.

Go to settings: sound: and then volumes and you can adjust ringtone, notification and media volume

the volumes are up but they are still quiet. like the master volume is set low
