How do I install 4.3 OTA with root and CWMR?

My S3 downloader mode (volume down + Home + Power buttons) looks like this:

ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (6 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE

ClockworkMod Recover (Volume Up + Home + Power, release power after it vibrates) is version: v 6.0.2.3

I don't think I care about keeping root - I think I rooted in the first place to run a tethering app, which I haven't done in a long time.

I allowed the update to download, and when it began installing, the phone rebooted to the android picture (spinning molecule) and progress bar, then showed:

Install Untrusted Package?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE

options No, Yes, and Go Back

and at the bottom:
ClockworkMod Recovery v 6.0.2.3
E:Invalid command argument
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed.

I chose no, and aborted the update. Is it safe to proceed? Will I lose data (I'll back up anyway first, but it's worth knowing)? Will I have problems with the counter? Do I have to unroot / revert to stock recovery first?

Clearly I know enough to be dangerous, and maybe not a lot more. I've done some searching, both forum and Google, and not come up with a clear answer to this. I saw the other recent thread on this, but it seems to have gone a different direction I've included a few extra details here to help anyone else who might find this.

I didn't think an OTA would complete successfully if you had alternate Recovery software, but some other poster said it went through on his CWM-equipped phone. So what do I know.

He didn't post as much detail as you, but it sounded like
- he kept his data
- he didn't answer my question about whether he kept root but I'm guessing not
- it sounded like he still had CWM
- still showed the custom binary count
- I didn't get an answer about the Warranty bit (Knox)

And FWIW, you lose the ability to use FoxFi, PdaNet, etc.

I think the failed signature will result in an update that will fail.

Thanks GSDer. Based on your posts here and in other threads, I'm now leaning towards going with a solid clean ROM once that's available. I only expect to use this as my primary phone for another 8 months, and I don't want to be limited in what I do with it after that. I don't see anything in 4.3 that I MUST have anyway.

<rant>I have to say, these guys - Samsung, Verizon, really are jerks about all this. I understand not wanting to provide warranty service for phones users messed up with software. But I don't get outright preventing users from running whatever they want, or warranting the hardware once someone reverts to factory software. Who cares if it was re-ROM'd or not? Even in the unlikely case that the software actually does break the hardware, it's still faulty hardware IMO.</rant>
