How do I keep from deleting photos from Photos when I delete from Gallery

Suddenly I am having picture confusion.

I thought if I deleted from the Gallery the pictures would stay in the Photos app.

That's not what is happening. Anyone know if I can delete from Gallery without deleting from Photos.

The Photos app will only display those pictures that were backed up to Google+. If you delete a picture from the stock Gallery and that picture wasn't uploaded to Google+, it won't show up in the Photos app. But if you delete it from the Gallery but the 'copy' is still in Google+'s servers, then it will show up on the Photos app under the ALL tab. If you only want to see those pictures in your device, open the slide-out menu and select ON DEVICE.

If you delete a picture from the Photos app, it will warn you that the deletion will be done across all devices and all copies.

I am going to come back to this thread tomorrow. I have been editing all day and my brain is now officially twisted. I just went to Google Plus and there are photos on my phone (both in Gallery and Photos) that are not showing up in the Google Plus photos, but there are photos showing up in Google Plus photos that I just copied from my hard drive to Google Drive today. I did not copy them to Google Plus. Weird. I have tons of photos on Google Drive that are not in the Google Plus photos.

I must have a setting that is not correct somewhere and/or a ghost in the machine.

Hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow when I am refreshed.

Ok ... awake with brain functions again.

So, I have found all my photos now in Google Plus. The few I could not find ended up under my second Google account. But I have some additional questions.

Does anyone know why the photos I copied and pasted from my hard drive to Google Drive a couple of days ago showed up in my Google Plus photos when no other photos I have copied and pasted into Google Drive have shown up in Google Plus. This was my first copy and paste into Google Drive with Lollipop. Could this be a new Lollipop feature?

When in the Gallery app, after the little Google photos icon shows up on the pictures (see below) why can't I delete them from the Gallery. I can delete from the Google photos app.

And why do we have two apps that do about the same thing. Seems silly.

Nope, not an LP feature. If you go to your settings and select your account, you should see the GOOGLE DRIVE option for you to enable/disable.

Also, recently Google Photos and Drive have begun an integration phase, so you will be able to see and manage your Google Photos through the Google Drive app as well (something a lot of us were asking for). It's a staged release, and it's still being rolled out.

That is awesome news because now I won't have to copy and paste to save to the Drive. I used to use an app to do it but I didn't like it any longer.

If you go to the Drive site the notice should be there, or if you're one of the lucky few, your pictures are already there.

Omg ... Yes, I went out there. Saw the notice. Saw the very last pics I took today and a message that older photos are coming.

I am noticing that auto backup to Google Plus photos is not happening instantaneously. I took a few pictures yesterday and they are still not on Google Plus. Sync is turned on and it seems to be syncing on a regular basis.

That's odd... if I turn mine on it syncs all the time, annoyingly sometimes haha So I set it to only upload when on WiFi AND while charging.

I found the one issue. Photos I take with my camera sync instantly. Photos I download from say a text message or a screen shot taken with my phone are not syncing.

Are you syncing those folders to Google? They have to be enabled in the Photos app

What would you do to delete pictures from photos and no where else then? Because I only want pictures saved in my gallery on my phone. Not anywhere else.

You can move the pictures from your phone to another non-backed up location and then delete them from Photos. Or you can turn off Photo's auto-back up in your device and just manually upload/backup those pictures you do want in the cloud.
