I have a samsung s7 with us cellular. Can I find out if it's unlocked to switch carriers

Gotta check with where it was purchased, if the device ID is locked to their network or not.

I know anything Verizon sells is unlocked, and T-Mobile provides unlock codes upon request. Don't personally know about other cell providers.
