How do I make emoji/emoticons larger and easier to read?

How do I make emoji/emoticons larger and easier to read

So I don't really want to make text larger... I can see that just fine... but for some reason I rarely recognize which emoticon all those emoji loving ladies love to send me.

They are just way too small (and at my ripe old age, my eyes are failing me)

Is there any way I can make them larger without increasing the text size dramatically?

In hangouts (which I also use for text messages) I use small or medium text usually and have increased to large and still can't make out the emoticons.

Running lollipop 5.0 on Samsung Galaxy S5.

nevermind... will just use the accessibility triple tap to zoom to see what I can't see. Still would have been nice to just have bigger emoji alongside the normal sized text.
