How do I mark message notifications as read?

On my previous phone (HTC One M8) when I got a message notification and swiped it away it would mark it as read. On this phone, when I swipe it away it does not mark it as read and I have to go into the message app and click the message before it marks it as read. I'd rather not have to go and click each message. Is there an easy fix or do I have to download a separate app for this? Thanks!

Just guessing, I don't have an HTC, but you'll probably need a 3rd party app.

Mysms app will let you mark as read, great third party messaging app
