How do I move games, apps, movies, and more to an external MicroSD card from an Android Tablet?

I've recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (Model: SM-T230NU Operating System: KitKat with 8GB's of internal storage) as well as a 'PNY' 16GB MicroSD card. However, I've been trying to get a game called "Chaos Rings" which loads up and works fine on my tablet, but it takes up the majority of my tablet's internal storage, so I can't download anything else onto the tablet itself and so I need to move the game to my MicroSD card. I already know about going into Settings > Application Manager > and hitting "Move To SD Card" but I'm not able to since the button is grayed out no matter what app I try to move over to the MicroSD card. I've heard that I have to “root” my Android tablet if I want to be able to do it for games like "Chaos Rings" amongst many other apps.

So am I required to root my Android tablet if I want to move "Chaos Rings" and any other apps/games to my MicroSD Card? If so, how do I go about doing that? I've seen some tutorial videos about it on YouTube, but I'm still rather confused about it all. I really wish I was able to designate where I wanted to download/install the app when I’m in the Google Play store much like I'd be able to do on a computer. Just out of curiosity, if I connected my Android tablet to my computer, would I be able to copy & paste the required game files from the tablet itself to the MicroSD Card?

Thanks for any help you may provide!

Welcome to Android Central! SD cards are primarily intended for media storage. Not all devices allow moving apps to SD, and for those that do, only a portion of the app can be moved. And not all apps support being moved anyway.

If you root the device you could try using apps like Link2SD or App Mgr III to move an app to SD. See here for more info: [ROOT] [INFO] Root Methods available for mos… | Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 | XDA Forums

Thanks for the warm welcome and the help!

Hypothetically speaking, even if I did 'root' my Android tablet would I still run into the same issues I'm already having regarding SD cards and apps? If that's the case, I was really hoping I could move the entire app/game to the SD card (when the tablets rooted) instead of having to worry about it using up my tablet's internal storage. I guess what I'm really asking is, does 'rooting' the tablet even make all the unsupported apps able to be moved to my Micro SD card via the "Move to SD Card" option, or would I still run into issues like I'm already having with an unrooted Android tablet? I'd rather have the game/app running from the Micro SD itself instead of having partial data on both the tablet and Micro SD card. Now I understand why people go for an Android tablet/phone with lots of internal storage.
