AC Question

Cannot figure out how to open a simple text file using a shortcut on the homescreen on this Droid Maxx which has more computing power than the computers that sent men to the moon!

I don't care to download another heavy app to do such a simple task so, if that is the answer I'm going to rip my hair out and set myself on fire.

Thanks for any solutions.

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Where is the txt file? Did you download it to the Downloads folder? I'm not sure how you would use a shortcut on the homescreen to open the txt file--you need to go to where the txt file is (presumably in the Downloads app) and tap the txt file to open it. It will ask you which app to use--on my Nexus 5, I get a choice of Chrome or HTML Viewer. Select one of those, and the txt file displays.
