How do I print from the S8+ using USB?

As you know, the phone came with a USB to USB-C dongle that lets you connect mice, flash drives, and other USB accessories. I recently came across the idea that if you connect the phone to a printer using the dongle and a USB cable, that you could print directly from the phone.

I have an HP Officejet 5610v all-in-one printer, so the only connection it supports is USB. I downloaded the HP Print Service Plugin and enabled it, then connected my printer to the phone. It can see the printer is connected via USB, but when I tried to print something from my phone as a test (a PDF file), it wouldn't let me select my printer to print; my printer was greyed out and it said something like "USB Connection." I also tried adding my printer in the settings menu, but that didn't work either, as it saw that my printer was already connected and wouldn't let me do anything with it.

Am I missing something here? How do I print from my phone using the USB dongle?

When you plug the printer into your phone using USB, it will require a driver to communicate with it (the mobile OS doesn't know how to handle it). Printing over WiFi or Cloud printing resolves the issue because all it does is send a command to print and the printer handles it without a direct connection (if it is one of the models that support that feature).
