How do I put calls on hold?

I understand that while on a call, I am to hit the "more" button and there should be a way to put a call on hold, but all I get is something saying to increase the volume of my call, so how do I put calls on hold?

It depends on your phone app - on mine, there's a "hold button" (it's not really a button, it's the upper border of the dial pad). And it works.

Does it really put the caller on hold, or does it just mute the microphone?
