How do I restore SMS to my phone?

SMS restore not working properly

I had my S4 die and had to replace. I downloaded SMS backup/restore and ran restore. The problem is, now when I look at my messages on the s4, the phone number of the "conversation" is there, but no conversations. I confirmed in my gmail account that all the SMS conversations are still there...how do I get them to my phone?

Look in the SMSBackupRestore folder for the latest backup. Open it in any text editor. (Copying the file to a Windows computer and opening it in Notpad, with Wordwrap off, makes it easier to read.) See if the messages are in there. If not, you didn't actually back them up. (Make sure you choose the right file to restore if you have more than one. You may have done your first backup when you had no messages on the phone.)

I found the folder on my phone. It is empty. However, if I go to my gmail account under sms, all of the messages are there. The import is bringing in the phone number, with todays date and time stamp, and no conversation. How do I fix this? Should I delete them all from my phone and then try again?
