I want to root my Samsung galaxy s5, but I'm wondering if I need a usb data transfer cable. Also, how do I root it? I know I need a computer, which I have. My model number is SM-G900F, Baseband version G900FXXU1CPFG, android version 6.0.1

Why do you want to root it? Yes a cable and computer you need , download Odin flash tool
And check XDA forum for advice .

I moved this from the Marshmallow forum to the S5 Rooting/ROMs forum for more specific traffic.

The F should have an unlockable bootloader, so Magisk should be installable. See Magisk General Support / Discussion for more information about it.

And yes, you need a PC or laptop and a cable.

But, as mustang asked, why do you want to root it? You aren't running any apps that require root access now, so unless there's an app that you want to run that requires root access, rooting the phone won't change anything. (Rooting doesn't change the way any app works, unless the app requires root access, in which case it won't work without root.)
