How do I save things in my SD card to google photos?

So I have been using google photos until I got my SD card and i have the problem of trying to save it to google photos but it only shows the internal storage (phone storage) instead of the external storage (SD card)l My question is, how do I save SD card photos to google photos?

Can you select all the photos from your SD card via a file managing application and share them directly to Google photos or Google Drive which contains Google photos?

ES File Explorer allows me to upload directly to. Google Photos.

The default location is /DCIM/Camera.

If you're running Marshmallow or Nougat, the card was probably formatted as adoptable storage, meaning that your "internal" storage is now a combination of your eMMC storage (in the phone) and your SD storage. You can't "move" a file from where it is to where it is, and "where it is" now is "storage".

If you want to use the card the old way, format it, and choose portable storage.

Are you seeing this in the Google Photos app when you tap Menu>Device Folders?

Yes I am and I cannot see the photos from my external storage or my SD card

How would I be able to format it on a Samsung on5?

Since you have a Samsung device, I don't think it was formatted as Adoptable Storage in the first place, because Samsung doesn't support that out of the box (you have to do some fancy ADB commands for that).

What directory on the SD card are the photos saved to? Is there a file called ".nomedia" in that directory?

Yes it can and the SD card is visible to the entire phone except the google photos app
